We sell two hardware systems for noise reduction. Unlike computer-based sofware system, these operate in real time. You do not have to record onto a computer, then process, and finally listen to or burn a CD. Both hardware noise reduction systems can be adjusted and used as you listen and they operate in two steps. The first step reduces crackle and ticks. This can be the occasional click or pop, or a continuous "frying bacon" as from 78 rpm records. Once this type of noise has been reduced, what is left can generally be described as "hiss." So, the next stage of noise reduction is usually hiss reduction. Sometimes, one genre of noise is more prevalent of bothersome to the user. So, it is not written in stone that both processors be obtained. However, a complete system would include both and provide the maximum result.
A complete CEDAR noise reduction system would consist of a Duo declickle in series with a Duo auto dehiss unit. CEDAR units operate in the digital domain and require additional hardware to digitize the analogue program material, and also to transform the digital output back to analogue. Both expensive and modestly priced Analogue to Digital (A/D), and Digital to Analogue (D/A) converters are available for this purpose. However, you can often use equipment you already have. For instance, if you have a DAT machine or other digital recorder, it probably has digital inputs and/or outputs. One of these units could be used to feed the CEDAR units. If your intention is to feed the output into a computer for more editing, you may have a sound card that has digital inputs. You could go directly from the CEDAR units into your computer. Thus, it is possible to sometimes use CEDAR units without any extra purchases.
The Esoteric Sound and Rek-O-Kut units are strictly analogue, and thus can be easily integrated into an ordinary hifi system, or professional system via RCA input and output jacks. A complete noise reduction system would consist of a Surface Noise Reducer connected in series to a DEHISSER. As before, one may also purchase either unit if only one form of noise was found more annoying. For 78 rpm reproduction, the DEHISSER provides the most benefit. You can also obtain a good noise reduction system by combining the CEDAR Duo Declickle and the Rek-O-Kut Dehisser into a system.
In evaluating these systems, it is necessary to consider the psychoacoustic factor. When listening to recordings with high frequency noise, we also perceive more highs than are actually present. We tend to associate the two. When the noise is removed, we perceive that the highs are also removed.
A complete audio restoration system consisting of the Re-Equalizer, Surface Noise Reducer, and DEHISSER would provide the majority of features of the, now discontinued, Packburn Noise Reducer. That unit sold for $2,600.00 in 1988. The cost of our system costs exactly half of that and has better performance plus much less audio distortion.
EVALUATION CD. We now have available two CDs that demonstrates the performance of the noise reduction devices we sell. One CD demonstrates the performance of the Esoteric Sound Surface Noise Reducer, and another that demonstrates the performance of the Rek-O-Kut DEHISSER. Both also show the effectiveness of CEDAR products. Each is available for $3.00 ppd. This can be deducted from the purchase price of any unit you purchase. For more information:

THREE NOISE
REDUCTION SYSTEMS IN ONE
for use with modern stereo LP records, old mono LP records, all tape/wire recordings, and vintage
noisy 78s
A perfect companion to follow the SURFACE NOISE
REDUCER
Easily connects to most hifi systems
The Rek-O-Kut De-Hisser is actually three products in one: a background hiss reducer, a left/right groove wall selector for mono records, and a low frequency noise rumble filter. Use it in real time. No time wasted with computers. Great for motion picture work. With zero latency, there is no loss of voice synch. Easily installed thru the external tape monitor circuit or your preamplifier/receiver or via the SuperConnector. A furniture-grade walnut case is available. Send for our demo CD, $3.00 ppd.
GROOVE WALL SELECTOR, a must for collectors or restorers of mono records. This switch permits you to select the least noisy groove wall of a mono record. In addition, the Rek-O-Kut De-Hisser features a unique circuit which cancels out rumble and similar noises that are common to both groove walls. Other switching circuits (left only or right only) permit low frequency noises (rumble) to be heard unimpeded. Our added circuitry removes the rumble and not the bass. For more details, click here.
HISS REMOVAL is not accomplished by a common variable, and in most cases manual, hi-cut circuit. These 1940's technology filters remove either the music or cause an annoying pumping sound of the background noise. The DE-HISSER uses several automatic, music-controlled filters within the spectrum of the program material. Thus, you do not notice it do anything, but make the music much more noise-free. Background hiss is one of the most annoying noises produced by tapes, cassettes, and records from 78 rpm thru vintage mono LPs to more modern stereo LPs. Using analogue filtering, it introduces absolutely no CEL telephone-like sounds commonly obtained with digital techniques and computer programs. Gain 10 dB of Signal to Noise Ratio.
THE LO-CUT removes annoying low frequency noises that can muddy the sound of records all vintages. This switch can select two amounts of low frequency noise attenuation. The 40 Hz position will suffice for many noise-plagued LP records and 78s, while the 80 Hz position may prove useful with old acoustic records, records with hum, rumble, severe warps, or records requiring severe bass boost.

REMOVE CRACKLE FROM
RECORDINGS
The Esoteric Sound Surface Noise Reducer Says:
Good-By to clicks, pops and crackle
- eliminates
or reduces these noises from most types of phonograph
records. Its circuit
can identify and remove many clicks and pops
found on Lp's and even 78's and other vintage records.
It will cause
minimum degradation to either audiophile or vintage records and is
suitable for inclusion into advanced audiophile systems where phonograph
records are used. While use
of a graphic equalizer or "scratch filter" to remove ticks and
scratches is somewhat effective, such filters reduce or eliminate the
highs found on records. The
Esoteric Surface Noise Reducer
acts only on the click or pop without effecting program material.
The Surface Noise Reducer
is also very effective in reducing ignition noise from FM radio
broadcasts.
Easily installed thru the external tape monitor
circuit or your preamplifier/receiver or via the SuperConnector.
A furniture-grade
walnut case is available. Send for
our 44-track demo CD.
Please include $3.00 ppd.

CEDAR DUO SERIES OF AUDIO RESTORATION MODULES
CEDAR, THE WORLD STANDARD IN NOISE REDUCTION - THERE IS NO BETTER!
CEDAR is world renowned for effectiveness in removing noise from sound sources. CEDAR is used by the world's leading record companies, including BMG, Abbey Road, and Skywalker Sound. The result of a collaboration between the British National Sound Archive and Cambridge University, they digitally remove most noise without affecting original sound. Each unit operates in real time, you do not have to process files on a computer. These devices have SPDIF and AES/EBU inputs and outputs and require a digital source, such as, a DAT machine or a low-cost A to D converter in order to operate. Please call for your pricing.

The Duo declickle processor removes scratches,
clicks and crackle, such as “frying bacon) sounds from your sound
sources. Simple dial adjustment
removes noise more effectively than any instrument ever made. List Price (1/08) is $6451.00 (IL Res. add
